Behind the Scenes on a Client Video Shoot | How I Film for Clients

The Key to Standing Out During the Filming Process

The key to standing out in your videos is NOT all about the clothes you wear, the way your hair looks, or how flawless your makeup is. No matter how amazing you look, what really matters is that you show up and BE YOURSELF. I know, cliché right? But so true! 

During the filming process, you need to be unapologetic about who you are. And yes, this begins even before the camera starts rolling. 

Lean into your weirdness and what makes you unique. Think about what brings you joy, what lights you up, and what you want people to know about you. Then, capture THAT with your content during the video production process. 

In this post, I’m sharing a behind the scenes sneak peek of my video filming process with a real client. You’ll learn what the video production process looks like and see exactly how to make this all come to life.

My 3-Step Video Filming Process

Video is one of the best ways to make yourself stand out in a saturated market. You can see just how impactful video content can be in building your brand in this video!
 
However, not everyone knows how to stand out and be themselves on video. That’s where I come in! Let’s take a behind the scenes look into my 3-step video filming process so you can see exactly what goes on when creating a real client video ad.
 

Step 1: Get to know the brand.

First things first in the filming process, I get to know my client and their brand intimately! I use a brand questionnaire to learn more about them, their unique characteristics, personality, and more. This helps me capture the best visuals. It also inspires the most creative ideas that will represent them authentically.
 

Step 2: Concept creation and collaboration.

Next up in the video production process, I collaborate with my client to come up with a video concept together. This step depends on the end results they’re looking for and their vision for the shoot. We brainstorm together to create a video concept that feels just right for them and their end goal.
 

Step 3: Script writing and shot list.

After the concept is created, it’s script writing time! This is the most important step of the filming process because it drives the entire creative journey. It helps you figure out where you want to shoot, what message you want to convey, and what emotions you want people to feel. It becomes your step-by-step shot list, AKA, what you plan to capture on the day of your shoot!

I like to plan out everything a viewer will see visually in the script stage. This allows us to get all the wardrobe and props together and book the right studio.

 

Behind the scenes of video shoot day.

Once the script is written and the shot list is created, it’s time for the magic… shoot day! On the day of the shoot, it’s always fun for the client to get pampered. They get their hair and makeup done while I set up the equipment. We shoot everything according to our shot list (which comes from the script).
