When I was at the beginning of my brand-building journey – I was not super stoked about being the face of my brand. 

If you’re anything like me, maybe you’re not crazy about the idea either.

This is actually one of the biggest objections I hear from my audience – “Shana, I want to run a business, I don’t want to be the face of my brand.”

But friend, I have news for you: you already have a brand.

And being the face of it is only one piece of the puzzle.

It’s not about adopting a “look-at-me” mentality. 

That’s not a brand I’m interested in building with you.

A brand is about the experience you offer to your customers, the stories you have to tellthe impact you want to make – the value you have to offer! 

And you just so happen to be the representative of those amazing facets of your business.

When I transformed my freelance business into a brand, I started seeing results immediately. 

I had clients who found me from my social media posts, my blogs, my YouTube videos – all because I took advantage of the free marketing tools available to me on social media! 

And friend – I didn’t even have a big following when I started attracting those new clients. 

Case in point – I gained a huge, established brand client who found me through my YouTube videos. 

At the time, I had less than 100 subscribers on the platform.

But my client found me because I showed up consistently, with my cohesive brand message, and they liked what I had to say.

So was it worth the extra time spent on building my personal brand?

Abso-freaking-lutely.

I’m a big fan of actual actionable advice – so here are my 7 Steps to Build an Effective Brand!

  1. Define your offer(s) – What do you sell? What problems do you solve and what solution do you provide? How much will you sell your product for?
  2. Identify your ideal customer – Who exactly will benefit from your products/services? Get as specific as possible! 
  3. Clarify your brand messaging – This is where you drill down and determine how you will consistently talk about your your business. Discover your brand tone, and establish your your Origin Story (how the brand came to be), your Transformation Story (the customer journey from their “before” to their “after,” and your Solutions Story (the customer benefits of your products/services). Your Brand Story is a combination of all these put together.
  4. Establish your visual branding – Create a recognizable brand by defining the visual representation of your brand. Establish the vibes your brand embodies, choose a color palette, brand fonts, and brand textures that will represent your brand on your website, social platforms and across the various mediums where you show up for your ideal customers.
  5. Implement your brand into your marketing efforts – Use your ideal customer knowledge, your brand messaging, and your visual branding to show up consistently for your customers online. 
  6. Market your brand consistently and strategically – implement messaging and visual branding across the board. Establish a marketing strategy that maximizes your efforts and minimizes the time you have to spend creating content.
  7. Show up consistently as the face of your brand – every photo you post, every video you create, every blog you share – it’s a way that you are adding to your brand narrative, building it into the empire that you’ve always been dreaming of. Show up consistently to build trust with your ideal customers!
